AgilePoint recently exhibited at the Gartner Application Innovation & Business Solutions Summit 2023 in Las Vegas, NV. During the event; our team delivered a session titled 'Cross-Functional Automation at Scale Powered by Citizen Development and Enterprise Governance' on May 22, 2023.

To gather insights from our executive team at AgilePoint, I asked them about their experience and key takeaways from the Gartner summit. Here's what they had to share.

Q. What is your key takeaway from the event you'd like to share?

Matt Hubbard | Director, Customer Operational Excellence at AgilePoint, USA

"Citizen Development is healthier and more sustainable when IT champions it"

IT seems quite interested in leveraging Citizen Development to get more done. As many of you know, I've advocated for LCNC and CD for over a decade. During most of that time, my interest in LCNC and CD came primarily from the business, not IT. But now, I am witnessing a genuine desire from IT leaders to pursue CD strategically, as long as it can be done safely and at scale.

I suspect that a few reasons for this shift are:

  • Project backlogs have grown
  • LCNC platforms have matured
  • Best practices and guardrails now exist
  • Success stories are being circulated

Matt's most profound comment; "this shift is fascinating for me because I believe that CD is healthier and more sustainable when IT champions it," Matt Hubbard.

"Build differentiated apps using Low-Code platforms"

A few years ago, the Gartner conference focused on developers and vendors promoting code generation and platforms like NodeJS. Attendees used to talk more about how platforms like NodeJS would make their life easier. However, the pandemic changed things, and since then, companies have realized the urgent need for rapid digital transformation instead of focusing on developer-productivity technologies.

This year's conference keynote centered on the "Build Vs. Buy" dilemma. The main message was that building custom apps is essential for differentiating and leveraging your organization's strengths. However, the new approach is to use low-code platforms for increased reliability, faster development, and better collaboration with business users", Nishant Shrivastava, Head of Product Development, AgilePoint.

Another aspect Nishant pointed out was Gartner's emphasis on switching to a 'Product Centric' mindset for software development instead of Project centric mindset while building new solutions.

Q. What was AgilePoint's core message?

AgilePoint's message to the tech executives and leaders was to make their digital transformation sustainable by switching from siloed and task-focused automation to cross-functional automation. It allows leaders to demonstrate the enterprise-wide impact of their digital initiatives.

AgilePoint's vision has three components to enable the shift from narrow to wide automation:

  1. Composable Digital Process Automation Factory
  2. Enterprise Citizen Development
  3. Next-Gen Low-Code & No-Code

You may notice a unique approach by AgilePoint to achieving its vision by bringing together no-code and low-code capabilities into a single platform. It allows for two distinct groups of users to leverage the platform effectively. Citizen Developers can utilize the no-code layer, which requires little to no coding knowledge. In contrast, professional developers can use the low-code layer, which offers more flexibility and customization options.

The critical advantage of AgilePoint's unified platform is that it eliminates the need for organizations to rely on multiple no-code/low-code tools for different tasks, such as robotic process automation (RPA), workflow management, and business process management (BPM).

In traditional setups, each department uses a different no-code/low-code platform to extend its IT stack (CRM, ERP, HR, ITSM, Legal), leading to a fragmented and complex automation landscape.

By adopting AgilePoint, technology leaders from some of the largest enterprises and government agencies worldwide have streamlined their automation initiatives. They have simplified the complexity by consolidating their automation efforts onto a single platform, ensuring better governance and promoting the long-term sustainability of their solutions.

Overall, our team had a wonderful time at the Gartner Application Innovation Summit 2023 (you can see from the pictures below); meaningful conversations, delicious food, and the chance to be at the forefront of enterprise innovation.

We look forward to being part of it next year. Stay tuned as we roll out a new version AgilePoint V9.0 soon!

The Gartner summit provided AgilePoint with an invaluable platform to share our vision for sustainable digital transformation through cross-functional automation. Our message resonated with tech executives, emphasizing the importance of unifying low-code/no-code capabilities in a single platform to streamline automation and drive long-term success. We’re excited about the future and look forward to continuing to lead the conversation on how enterprises can optimize their automation strategies.
