Microsoft has announced the retirement of three interconnected services:

  • SharePoint 2013 Workflow (Workflow Manager) in Microsoft 365
  • Azure Access Control Services
  • SharePoint Add-in model

The AgilePoint Advantage: Two Decades of Future-Proof Architecture

For Nintex, K2 and SharePoint Designer Users:

While millions of workflows built with SharePoint Designer, Nintex, K2, and other platforms that depend on native SharePoint workflow technology face complete rebuilds costing millions of dollars, AgilePoint customers experience a different reality.

For AgilePoint Customers:

This change has a Minimal impact on your investment in workflows and forms.  Here's why:

  • Loosely Coupled Architecture: AgilePoint has advocated for loosely-coupled SharePoint workflows for two decades.
  • External Execution: Your SharePoint workflows and forms are executed on AgilePoint servers, not SharePoint.
  • Minimal SharePoint Dependency: Our use of SharePoint's native workflow is limited to a single event-listening step.
  • Seamless Migration: Our new SharePoint Framework (SPFx) app provides a straightforward transition.

Who Is Affected and How?

SharePoint On-Premise Customers

If you're using AgilePoint with SharePoint On-Premise, these retirement announcements will not impact you.

SharePoint Connector Users Without Workflows

If you only use AgilePoint's SharePoint Connector for reading/writing data but don't use the SharePoint Add-In or AgilePoint workflow for SharePoint, there is no impact on your environment.

SharePoint Add-In Users for Microsoft 365

You can continue using the current Add-In until April 2026, but we recommend upgrading to our new SharePoint Framework app, available in Q4 2024.

Our New SharePoint Framework Solution: Ready Now

We've proactively developed a new SharePoint app using the recommended SharePoint Framework (SPFx) architecture:

  • Available now on Microsoft AppSource
  • Requires AgilePoint NX v9 Software Update 1
  • Replaces SharePoint Add-In with modern SPFx components
  • Uses SharePoint Webhooks instead of native workflows for event handling
  • Preserves all your existing workflows and forms with no redevelopment required

Why Migrate from Nintex, K2, or SharePoint Designer to AgilePoint? It comes down to one answer: Finally future-proofing your SharePoint investment.

1. Avoid Complete Rebuilds

  • While others must completely rebuild their workflows, AgilePoint's architecture lets you preserve your investment.
  • Migration tools significantly reduce transition effort.
  • Eliminate the risk of future rebuilds as platforms continue to evolve.

2. Reduce Total Cost of Ownership

  • Consolidate workflow applications (one customer reduced 8,000 Nintex workflows to 2,000 AgilePoint apps).
  • Enable business users to maintain workflows, reducing IT dependency.
  • Eliminate redundant workflows through composable architecture.
  • Decrease long-term support costs through standardized components.

3. True Platform Independence

  • Build once, run anywhere capability frees your processes from external platform constraints.
  • Easily migrate between SharePoint, Google Workspace, Salesforce, or other systems by simply reconfiguring connections.
  • Future-proof your investment against upcoming platform changes by your vendor or AgilePoint.
  • Protect your business from being held hostage to vendor platform decisions.

Expert Migration Support

Our Professional Services team provides comprehensive migration support for both current AgilePoint customers and those moving from other platforms:

For Current AgilePoint Customers:

  • Simple app replacement using our automated migration utility.
  • Seamless transition on a per-site collection basis.
  • Environment impact analysis to identify affected SharePoint sites.
  • Minimal business disruption with no recoding required.

The AgilePoint Professional Services team will be utilizing an automated migration utility to make this transition smooth on a per site collection basis. This migration utility is already available so please contact your account manager to start planning the migration.

For Nintex, K2, and SharePoint Designer Users:

  • Strategic planning to consolidate and optimize workflows during migration.
  • Comprehensive assessment to understand your current SharePoint workflow landscape.
  • Re-create end-to-end workflows and forms in minutes using GenAI capabilities on AgilePoint's platform.
  • Deployment and testing support to ensure business continuity.

Our Commitment to Future-Proofing Your Investments

AgilePoint is dedicated to safeguarding your applications and platforms against future changes. Our innovative architectural approach ensures that your processes and forms remain unaffected when SharePoint undergoes upgrades, protecting your application development investment.

And of course, that goes for all AgilePoint upgrades as well. In fact, as you probably already know, this is one of the main reasons why Enterprises choose AgilePoint, to avoid costly app restructuring that robs you of your valuable time and resources.

What does AgilePoint future-proof exactly?

Level 1: Process and Forms - AgilePoint safeguards your business processes and forms by abstracting them away from the underlying technology, allowing them to function seamlessly even as platforms evolve.

Level 2: Running on Apps and Platforms - Your workflows remain operational across diverse applications and platforms without redevelopment, ensuring business continuity regardless of technology changes.

Level 3: AgilePoint and SharePoint - The loosely-coupled architecture between AgilePoint and SharePoint means that changes to either system won't impact your workflows, protecting your investment as both platforms continue to evolve.

Time-Sensitive Opportunity: Act Before the Microsoft Deadlines

With key Microsoft retirement dates approaching, now is the time to secure your SharePoint workflow strategy:

  • Current AgilePoint Customers: Contact your account manager to schedule your migration to the new SharePoint app.
  • Nintex, K2, and SharePoint Designer Users: Request an assessment to understand how AgilePoint can protect your investment while preventing future migration headaches.
