Belgium, Oudenaarde – 21 August 2009 – ASCENTN EMEA, a subsidiary of Ascentn Corporation US, announced today that the hospital Gasthuiszusters of Antwerp, has chosen the AgilePoint BPM Suite to automate their clinical path trails.
Ascentn is delivering AgilePoint BPMS to the Gasthuiszusters of Antwerp and has chosen Cegeka as the strategic implementation partner. Gasthuiszusters of Antwerp has already invested in the automation of the clinical path trail system, where certain fixed defined actions and tasks were managed via a legacy system. Hereby task lists and checklists are composed in an automated way that has lead to major efficiency gains and added value in the daily operational force.
The synergy between the vast experience of GzA on one side, and the technology opportunities and the vision around BPM of Cegeka on the other side has developed a unique partnership that is leading the evolution of the “clinical Paths” framework roll out. Part of the framework is based on an expansion of the current ‘patient ERP’ modules (patient records, order communications, therapy sheets, …) where the specific functionalities for controlling, monitoring, and measuring of clinical care paths are included. The other part of the solution is based on the Ascentn BPMS (Business Process Management Solution).
The open architectural framework of the AgilePoint BPMS and the powerful BPMS functions it offers will manage and interact with existing applications via Web services and interact with the Health Level 7 (HL7) standards to achieve integrations.
The AgilePoint BPMS is the center of the solution framework, the application architecture, and is acting as the ‘central engine’ of the application. It drives the many different clinical care processes in a dynamic and proactive way. Now, parameters that measure quality and operational effectiveness can be set that incorporates the human (caretaker) and the machine (departmental systems) activities evaluating the predefined quality indicators (KPI’s).
The clinical paths workflow component expands the total solution that Cegeka Health Care provides for the caretakers at hospitals. The solution integrates systems across the board to surpass the traditional limits of the clinical process, for example:
- Individual patients and caretakers (generic care path)
- Departments of a hospital (with the handling of orders and regulations)
- Patient contacts in a control process/disorder
- Different lines of caretaking (transmutable clinical paths)
Via KPI indicators, the performance and the quality of care can be evaluated and improved by:
- Adjusting the KP’s and also the care processes
- To show the level of service to justify the facilities (and their financial needs), improve planning, to let subsidize, etc.
- Implement operational requirements (e.g. by the government) through these indicators
- Abnormalities of patients over the paths model can more easily be monitored and evaluated
The technology makes it very easy to define performance reports from the KPI’s to make well-informed decisions to improve processes. Process improvements such as adjusting and optimizing the execution and guidance of the care paths can now happen in a timely and cost effective fashion without any technical interventions.
